Welcome to the Hartford Hospital Lactation Program!
Hartford Hospital has been Baby-Friendly since 2000 with a highly trained nursing staff who are available 24 hours a day for breastfeeding support. A Baby-Friendly hospital protects, promotes and supports the breastfeeding family and a mother’s informed decision to use formula. Our lactation program is designed specifically for assisting with all breastfeeding challenges throughout a mother’s breastfeeding journey.
We highly recommend every new mother attend a prenatal breastfeeding class before she makes her decision on how to feed her baby. We offer prenatal breastfeeding consultations to help address specific concerns. For eligible mothers, Hartford Hospital has peer counselors who will connect with you prenatally, in the hospital, after the birth of your baby, and at home to assure you have the resources you need for successful breastfeeding. Our staff is experienced in helping you select a breast pump that is right for you and your lifestyle whether it be returning to work or building a milk supply.
During these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the lactation program expanded to accommodate breastfeeding families in the community. We now offer telehealth breastfeeding appointments and we created an online breastfeeding support group that meets every Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. We also formed a private, international breastfeeding support group through social media.
